“Significant increase” in buyers at Mipel

20/02/2017
The recent edition of leathergoods fair Mipel (February 12-15 in Milan) saw more than 10,000 visitors although the organisers of the event, Italian leathergoods manufacturers’ association AIMPES, said these figures needed to be interpreted cautiously.

However, it highlighted a “significant increase” in the number of buyers that attended; there were 6.6% more than for the 2016 edition. Buyers from Italy made up more than half of those in attendance, but buyers from overseas increased 7.0%, something which AIMPES described as “a positive sign for the future”.

There was an increase in buyers from several of Mipel’s key international markets, with Russia (+48.8%), South Korea (+28.2%), USA (+21.5%) and Japan (+15.7%) seeing especially impressive increases in buyer numbers.

"The success of this edition is the result of different factors, two of them being the careful selection of the participating companies and a layout that changes from season to season. While constant research into innovation and new emerging talents is another,” explained Roberto Briccola, president of Mipel.
