Mipel celebrates Warhol

20/09/2017
The 112th edition of leathergoods show Mipel (September 17 to 20) has been dedicated to artist Andy Warhol, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of his death.

Exhibitors were asked to create a bag inspired by the artist, and the 20 best models will be displayed as part of a Warhol exhibition in the centre of Milan.

Fashion designer Vivienne Westwood also contributed to the show, displaying her collections. The Ethical Fashion Initiative bags are made in Kenya and use locally sourced cowhides and recycled Dhow sail. Nairobi-based artisans melt down and recast car engine parts, taps and padlocks to form the Vivienne Westwood logo, hardware and buckles.

Organisers say they expect the edition of Mipel to be an “important one”, with over 1,000 registered buyers.
