Fresh deadline for Bangladesh tannery relocation

The deadlines for tanneries near Dakar, Bangladesh to relocate from an old site in Hazaribagh to the new cluster in Savar has been extended to December 30, according to local media reports.

The reports said that Amir Hossain Amu, Bangladesh’s Industry Minister, told tanners they must complete their relocation by the new date or risk having their gas and electricity supplies cut off. The warning came as he visited the new Savar Industrial Park.

At a press briefing, Mr Hossain said those tanneries who hadn’t started the relocation process would face legal action. He also warned that the plots they had been allocated in Savar could be cancelled.
