Bridge of Weir celebrates automotive heritage

26/08/2016
Bridge of Weir Leather, part of the Scottish Leather Group, will display a series of iconic cars featuring interiors made from its leather at the Concours of Elegance automotive show (September 2-4).

It is the second year that Bridge of Weir has attended the event, which takes place in the grounds of Windsor Castle, UK. Its participation this year celebrates a “Century of Iconic Interiors”.

Among the cars on display will be the 1915 Ford Model T Tourer, the very first automotive customers of Bridge of Weir. The relationship with the Ford Motor Company dates back to 1911 and continues to this day.

It will also show US manufacturer DeLorean’s DMC-12 model, which was built from 1981 to 1982. It is most famous for its appearance in the Back to the Future trilogy of films.

The modern model in the Bridge of Weir collection is the 2016 Aston Martin DB11. This partnership has endured more than 50 years, with Bridge of Weir first supplying Aston Martin with leather for the interior of the DB5 in the 1960s.

“The interior’s sense of occasion is created by beautiful smell, touch and feel – it’s part of our identity and our interiors are each unique and hugely important to Aston Martin owners,” said Aston Martin director of design, Marek Reichman. “Our leather from Bridge of Weir is a timeless product, and there is a long history of the company working closely with us – we believe it is the best leather in the world.”

“Each of the cars we have brought together play their own part in the history of Bridge of Weir Leather Company, with the latest Aston Martin DB11 heralding a truly enthralling future of design, manufacturing and innovation ahead of us,” said Karen Marshall, Bridge of Weir managing director.
