Bridge of Weir Leather Company sponsored the main Car of the Year trophy at the Scottish Car of the Year Awards at the end of November. The tanning company, part of Scottish Leather Group, is a long-standing supporter of the Scottish Car of the Year awards but this was the first time it has sponsored the main prize.

The highest accolade was, this year, presented to Hyundai for the i10 at a ceremony held at St Andrews. The car company received a special quaich, a traditional, decorative Scottish drinking bowl, adorned in Bridge of Weir leather in the colours of the national flag. Tony Whitehorn, chief executive of Hyundai Motor UK, received the award on the automotive company’s behalf.

At the event, managing director of Bridge of Weir, Karen Marshall, said: “Congratulations to Hyundai on winning this year’s hotly contested Scottish Car of the Year award. The i10 is a great car and it is a very well deserved accolade. We’re proud to sponsor these awards, which are held in such high esteem across the industry, and look forward to seeing what the automotive sector will bring in 2015.”
