Botswana’s minister of agriculture, Patrick Ralotsia, says the country could export beef to Kenya after a delegation from the East African country toured the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) in the town of Lobatse.

Mr Ralotsia told local media that the Kenyan delegation were impressed by the meat quality, technology and hygiene standards of the BMC and that the possibility of Botswana expanding its beef market was boosted by the high number of cattle in the country. He added that the cattle industry is currently one of the country’s largest employers and that it provides a variety of end products, including meat and leather.

Willy Bett, Kenya’s minister of agriculture, said he had been impressed by the beef production capabilities of Botswana and that it was clearly one of the leading countries in this area. He added the visit also served to show Kenya how it could improve the standard of its own beef production.
