Report identifies potential markets for Botswana’s beef

A report by the Botswana Private Sector Development Programme (PSDP), a government-led initiative supported by the European Union (EU), had identified 10 potential markets for the country’s beef exports.

The report urged Botswana to seek new markets outside of the EU, as this market has become too competitive. The country has also lost the preferential status it previously enjoyed due to the agreements that the EU has signed with its competitors in recent years.

Among the potential destinations for Botswanan beef are Sweden, Switzerland and Italy. Research showed that Italian importers would be willing to pay “relatively high prices” for Botswana’s beef products.

The report also identified Russia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Kuwait as potential markets. It suggested that a removal of inter-regional trade barriers could also open up markets in Nigeria, Angola and Zambia.
