Industry en route to Shanghai
Many big players in the leather, hides and skins industry are making their way to Shanghai for the All China Leather Exhibition.

Running from August 31 to September 2 – earlier dates than normal due to a public holiday in China – organisers are expecting more than 22,000 visitors.

Innovations or new products on display will include:

• new fatliquors and softening agents from Trumpler, which will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Chinese division at the show
• new offerings from BASF that includes products that can help tanners “lower carbon and toxicity footprint”, as well as reduce water and energy use
• a new collection of cationic fat-polymers from Stahl
• a guide to minimising VOC (volatile organic compounds) and another on avoiding chrome VI formation in leather from Lanxess
• more details on a new UK-based International Centre for Leather, run by Northampton’s Institute for Creative Leather Technologies, the Leather Conservation Centre and the International Museum of Leathercraft
• a new all-rounder product”, Magnopal IPR, from TFL
• “an organic formaldehyde scavenger” from GSC
• stuffing oils and waxes for the wet end from Tannin Corp, and
• various new products from Zschimmer & Schwarz.

The topic of the Leather Forum, on August 30, is ‘Does supply and demand still matter?’
