Kering brands sue Alibaba over counterfeits

Kering-owned Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent are among brands that are suing Alibaba for “knowingly making it possible” for counterfeiters to sell goods through the China-based online retailer.

The lawsuit, filed in the US, alleges that Alibaba "provides the marketplace advertising and other essential services necessary for counterfeiters to sell their counterfeit products to customers in the US”, according to Reuters.

A spokesman for Alibaba declined to comment.
