Alibaba suspended from IACC

Chinese online shopping site Alibaba has had its membership to the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC) suspended following objections from several high-profile members and concerns over a conflict of interests.

The Chinese company’s inclusion on the IACC list prompted Gucci, Michael Kors and Tiffany to quit the Washington-based coalition.

The Guardian newspaper also reported that Robert Barchiesi, chairman of the IAAC, failed to inform the board of directors that he holds shares in Alibaba.

Following the decision Alibaba said that it will continue to collaborate with the industry on anti-counterfeiting efforts, “whether or not we are a member of the IACC”.
