Countries ban Canadian beef after BSE discovery

26/02/2015
Taiwan, Peru and Belarus have imposed trade restrictions on Canadian beef after a case of spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) was found in mid-February, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

South Korea also banned Canadian beef and Indonesia banned non-edible by-products from Canada.

BSE is a progressive, fatal neurological disease believed to be spread when cattle eat protein rendered from the brains and spines of infected cattle or sheep.
