Canadian cattle ranchers fear drought
Canadian cattle ranchers are becoming increasingly concerned about dry conditions that are threatening to turn into a drought.
Some areas have received less than 40% the average rainfall recently, meaning farmers are buying hay to feed the animals and the national herd is at a 22-year low.
In contrast, The US experienced its wettest May on record. This is prompting ranchers to expand their herds.
However, slaughter fell to 550,000 head last week – the lowest level for the first week in June for 60 years.
