USDA pledges $5bn to attract younger ranchers

The average age of the American farmer is more than 58, and data shows almost 10% of farmland will change hands in the next five years.
Agriculture Deputy Secretary Krysta Harden said they have developed a “tech-based strategy to recruit the farmers of the future” after recognising the problem of ‘aging’ ranchers.
“No matter where you’re from, no matter what you look like, no matter your background, we want USDA to be the first stop for anyone who is looking to be a part of the story and legacy of American agriculture,” she said.
