"America's farmers, ranchers and rural business owners are innovative entrepreneurs and this programme helps them grow economic opportunities for their families and communities by increasing the value of the items they produce," US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said. "The Value-Added Producer Grant programme has a great track record of helping producers increase the value of products and expand their markets and customer base, strengthening the rural US in the process."
Recipients of the Grant, for which priority will be given to veterans, beginning farmers and ranchers and operators of family-owned farms, can use it to develop new products or to increase the uses for existing ones.
Since the programme began in 2009, 1,126 Value-Added Producer Grants have been awarded by USDA and the total investment made available has been $144.7 million.
