JBS listed as Brazil's third-largest company

Packer and tanning group JBS is Brazil's largest foodstuffs company and the third largest overall, according to the Valor 1,000, a ranking of Brazil's 1,000 biggest companies by revenue in 2013.

JBS reported revenues of 92.9 billion ($41 billion) BRL in 2013, placing behind only Petrobras and Vale.

Its revenues were almost three times higher than the second-largest foodstuffs company, and it was also the most profitable, with net profits of 4.1 billion BRL.

In the second quarter of this year, the company posted net revenues of 29 million BRL - 32% up year on year. Earnings were 2.4 billion BRL, 46% up on the second quarter of 2013.
