Packer and tanning group JBS has published its Annual Sustainability Report for 2013. The group, which is now the largest producer of leather in the world, says it publishes details of its performance in sustainability as part of its commitment to transparency.

It used criteria laid down by a body called Abrasca, the Brazilian Association of Open Companies.

In the part of the report that covers relationships with stakeholders, JBS made reference to the open dialogie it maintains with the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (GRSB), a multi-stakeholder initiative that seeks to facilitate global dialogue on sustainable beef production in the world, and with the Leather Working Group, the multi-stakeholder organisation aimed at promoting sustainability and environmental practices in the leather industry.

In addition, JBS signed a national pact in Brazil for the eradication of slave labour and has a commitment not to negotiate with suppliers that are associated with labour conditions similar to slavery.
