Brazilian meatpacker and tannery owner JBS has signed a technical cooperation agreement with Dr Temple Grandin, one of the world’s foremost specialists on herd management and livestock, to improve animal handling in Brazil.

Dr Grandin will evaluate practises adopted by in the country, following a similar deal with JBS in the US, and which will be audited by professor Mateus Paranhos from the Universidade Estadual Paulista.

In addition to intensifying efforts at its own facilities, JBS is working alongside producers through the company's livestock breeder relationship scheme. Its policy states that animals should not suffer any discomfort and do not suffer hunger, thirst, pain, injuries, diseases, fear or stress.
