Tyson completes Hillshire acquisition

US packer and tanning group Tyson Foods announced on August 28 that it had successfully completed its acquisition of Chicago-based fast-food group Hillshire Brands.

It said Hillshire Brands will now become a wholly owned subsidiary of Tyson.

Upon announcing in June that it had successfully outbid rival group Pilgrim’s Pride, controlled by Brazilian packer and tanning company JBS, for Hillshire, Tyson chief executive, Donnie Smith, said that the move would help Tyson become a leader in prepared food and that the acquisition represented “a defining moment” for his company.
