JBS proposes new packing plant in Paraguay

Reports from Latin America suggest Brazilian packer and tanning group JBS is to open a third packing plant in Paraguay.

A public relations agency working with JBS confirmed that the company will invest $100 million in the new plant, creating 1,000 new jobs in the process.

The company already has two plants in Paraguay, one in Asunción and the other in San Antonio. These facilities have a combined slaughter capacity of 1,200 head of cattle.

This new investment is for a slaughterhouse only, with no concrete plans for the group’s leather division, JBS Couros, to set up a tannery in Paraguay, the company has confirmed to leatherbiz.com.
