Coach completes deal for Kate Spade

Leathergoods brand Coach has announced it has completed the acquisition of fashion brand Kate Spade & Company for $2.4 billion.

Coach reached an agreement to buy Kate Spade in May, reportedly beating off competition from Michael Kors and four other companies. 

Coach said the acquisition would create a “leading luxury lifestyle company with a more diverse multi-brand portfolio”. It added that this would be supported by “significant expertise” in handbag design, merchandising, supply chain and retail operations. Coach expects its leadership team to drive the “long-term sustainable growth” of Kate Spade.
