New Burberry design director to oversee leathergoods and shoes

21/03/2017
Luxury brand Burberry has appointed former Dior designer Sabrina Bonesi as its new design director for leathergoods and shoes, a newly-created position.

In her new role, Ms Bonesi will be responsible for men’s and women’s bags, shoes and accessories. She was previously head designer for women’s leathergoods at Dior, as well as spending time with Prada and helping design collections for brands including Bottega Veneta, Salvatore Ferragamo and Tod’s.

She will report directly to Christopher Bailey, who currently serves as both CEO and chief creative officer of Burberry. He will relinquish his CEO role in July, taking on the new title of president.

The move is designed to allow Mr Bailey to focus on the design, product and marketing aspects of the business, while his replacement as CEO, Marco Gobbetti, takes over responsibility for operations, finance and merchandising.
