Waste not, want not for luxury brand
Luxury brand Hermès is using leftover leather to create Christmas gifts as part of its ‘petit h’ initiative.

The ‘petit h’ workshop was created in 2010 by artistic director Pascale Mussard. It works with artists and designers to use surplus materials from traditional Hermès products. As well as leather, the brand is also making use of leftover silk.

Among the products to use leather are an advent calendar, a plane-shaped change tray, and various animal sculptures.

Having previously offered the products in Paris, Hermès took the ‘little h’ initiative to New York in time for Christmas, setting up pop-up shops at various locations across the city. Around 3,000 items have been created with shoppers also able to participate in workshops with visiting artisans.
