01/08/2016
Brazil and the US have completed negotiations to increase the trade of fresh beef between the two countries, according to Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA).

Shipments of beef could start withing 90 days, once the health authorities of both countries have completed the necessary administrative procedures.

Brazilian agriculture minister, Blairo Maggi, explained that establishments will be “pre-listed” for exports by MAPA and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). Only those that meet all of the requirements agreed by the two countries will be allowed to export their fresh beef products.

The agreement follows a visit to the US by Mr Maggi as well as animal health and agribusiness trade representatives from the Brazilian government. Brazil already exports processed beef to the US.
