Saudi Arabia becomes key destination for Brazilian beef

Exports of beef from Brazil to Arab countries totaled $96.73 million in July, an increase of 13.8% on the same period of 2015. The data, compiled by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, was presented by Brazil’s Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC).

Saudi Arabia is now Brazil’s second biggest export destination for beef in Arab markets, having imported $10 million worth in July. The country recently resumed purchases of beef from Brazil after a three-year embargo. There were also increases in exports to Lebanon, Algeria, Jordan, Libya and Qatar.

Egypt, Brazil’s largest Arab market and second overall, saw an 8% increase in export volume in July compared to 2015. Value was down 3.2%.

For the first seven months of the year, total exports of Brazilian beef to the Arab world were $660 million, a 10% increase year-on-year.
