New deadline for Hazaribagh tannery move

Press in Bangladesh have reported that the government has given tanners a 31 December deadline to move from Hazaribagh to the new Savar area.

“No tannery can remain in Hazaribagh after 31 December. If owners of the tanneries don’t shift their factories within that time all the plots at the Tannery Estate in Savar which have been allocated to these factories will be cancelled,” said Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu.

However, the move from Hazaribagh has been discussed and planned for more than 15 years.
