Kashmir set to house new tanning zone

Local press have reported that Indian tanners are to set up in the Kashmiri district of Pulwama, which could be due to a memorandum of understanding signed by the State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO) and the Council for Leather Exports.

“At present only three leather-manufacturing units are working at Lasipora producing only semi-finished leather. The MoU will help us attract some top leather goods manufacturers. It will help utilisation of local raw material used for leather,” Amit Sharma, managing director of SIDCO, told reporters.

The report says the plan is to upgrade the common effluent treatment plant at the leather park to attract tanners and satisfy leather buyers.
