Export revenues down for Indian leather

India’s Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has reported a 7.6% decline in export revenues in the first five months of the current financial year, April-August. The amount tanners and finished product manufacturers brought in from overseas customers during the five-month period was $2.6 billion, compared to almost $2.9 billion in the same period in 2014.

For finished leather, the decline was even steeper at 19.7%, bringing in $260.2 million in April-August 2015.

Export earnings from leather footwear were down by 4.7% year on year at $962.7 million.
