CLE says India can do much better in lucrative Japanese market

World Tokyo Fair from September 30 to October 2 this year to promote exports of Indian footwear and leathergoods.
Exports of leather-sector products from India to Japan have been increasing in recent years, the CLE said on making the announcement, and reached $48.7 million in financial year 2013-14. However, it pointed out that with total exports to Japan of leather and leathergoods reaching $8.6 billion in 2012, with $2.3 billion of this attributable to leathergoods, India’s share is small and can grow.
India’s exports of footwear to had a value of only $ 23.3 million in 2013-14.
