China aims to boost leathergoods manufacturing

The China Leather Industry Association is holding a forum prior to the All China Leather Exhibition in Shanghai to discuss the country’s leathergoods manufacturing capacity.

It says it is a “powerful country” in leather production but not in leathergoods making, and cites Germany and US, which have strategies in place to increase manufacturing as examples of a “profound change period as big countries reshape their manufacturing sectors”.

Government representatives, the China National Council of Light Industry, tanners, local leather organisations, academics and journalists have been invited to the meeting, Made in China, which will run from August 29 to 31 at the Shanghai Rainbow Hotel
