CLIA sets out plan to boost China’s leather industry
The China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) has set forth a plan to help the industry in light of declining production volumes and tannery closures.
CLIA president Su Chaoying said the association will strengthen ties with the government, ask for funding and use this to help companies attend international events.
It will conduct research on the tanning technology domestically and abroad, and will set five and 10-year targets for water saving and emission reduction.
The central government has entrusted the association with monitoring, “due to the vital function of CLIA in verification of environmental protection in recent years”.
The CLIA will also introduce awards for innovation on environmental protection.
Our recent Leather Pipeline report suggested the Chinese government has little time for the leather industry.
