Foiled robbery attempt at Italian tannery

Thieves targeting Ponte a Cappiano-based tannery Pellican were foiled when they triggered alarms linked to a private security company and fled empty handed.

They stole company van, seemingly intending to load it with hides, before abandoning it in nearby Lucca. Detectives say their faces were caught on camera.

It is the latest a raft of burglaries at Italian tanneries.

In January, police arrested a gang who targeted at least seven businesses in Santa Croce, stealing €700,000 of leather.
