Prolific leather thieves caught in Italy

09/01/2015

Police in Italy have arrested a gang who targeted at least seven tanneries in Santa Croce and stole €700,000 worth of leather in 2013, according to local reports.

It is thought the 12 people were caught after a mobile phone was discovered in one of the tanneries, and police linked it back to the group during a year-long investigation.

In June, police in Lucca arrested a truck driver who had transported stolen leather, originally destined for Louis Vuitton, worth €250,000, which had been lifted from the Antiba tannery in Santa Croce.
