CSIR touts water-free tanning process to leather chemicals firms
India’s Central Leather Research Institute (CSIR) is touting its research on a biodegradable dispersing agent to leather chemical companies, suggesting they might want to commercialise the development.
According to the institute, the new process uses “abundant raw materials”, resulting in a “water-free tanning process”.
It said: “Potential benefits include saving in water to an extent of 5 litres per kilo of raw hides, complete elimination of salinity in tanning, near zero discharge, a 30% saving in time and energy and a significant reduction in cost.”
