Chanel prioritises Seoul and Incheon duty-free

Following earlier local media reports on the subject, Parisian luxury house Chanel recently confirmed its intention to shutter its duty-free stores in both Busan and Jeju to travel retail publication The Moodie Davitt Report

The boutiques, which are to be closed on March 31, are located within Lotte Duty Free and Shilla Duty Free, respectively.

“This decision has come after deep and careful consideration and review with respect to our employees as well as overall business sustainability,” a Chanel spokesperson said. “We intend to focus our travel retail operations on Seoul downtown and airport businesses, as shown by the new boutique we opened in terminal one of Incheon airport, which enable us to offer our clients the best boutique experience while maintaining our position as a top luxury brand.”

The company’s decision follows fellow French luxury goods firm Louis Vuitton’s recent move to cease all downtown duty-free operations in South Korea by March 2023, leaving only its airport locations behind.
