Tannery guides also discussed the rich history of the plant, and how the traditions had passed through generations in the local community. 

Volga tannery said: “We thank the teaching staff of the Lyceum for their sincere interest in production and for the opportunity to acquaint the younger generation with the high art of leather dressing.”

The tannery was established in 1730, making it one of Russia’s oldest leather companies. Many of the current employees are fourth and the fifth generation leatherworkers.

Volga claims the water it uses from the local Lake Seliger contributes to the high quality of its leather.
