Students learn about the technical and the traditional at Volga
Students from a Moscow school had the opportunity to see inside the Volga Tannery, based in Ostashkov, as part of a tour of the region.
They learned about the tanning process, from raw hides to complex finishing.
Volga tannery said: “We thank the teaching staff of the Lyceum for their sincere interest in production and for the opportunity to acquaint the younger generation with the high art of leather dressing.”
The tannery was established in 1730, making it one of Russia’s oldest leather companies. Many of the current employees are fourth and the fifth generation leatherworkers.
Volga claims the water it uses from the local Lake Seliger contributes to the high quality of its leather.
