Leathersellers’ Company opens student grants programme
23/02/2021
The recipients must be enrolled at a leather associated degree course at a university in the UK, or with an offer to do so later this year; in a leather trade-related apprenticeship; or undertaking some other form of further education related to pursuing a career in the leather industry.
The company considers “leather associated studies” to include those working with fashion, product design and engineering, leather technologists, chemical engineers, product development technicians and process control engineers.
It could also include business-focused studies such as environment, marketing, design and supply chain management “as long as you have an existing connection and desire to work in the leather industry in the future”. Applications must be received via the online form by 15 April 2021.
The Leathersellers’ Company is one of the ancient Livery Companies of the City of London, ranked fifteenth in order of precedence. Founded in 1444 to control the sale of leather within London, the group no longer has a regulatory role; its efforts are now put towards charity, education and supporting the UK leather trade.
