First World Leather technical editor dies
World Leather’s first technical editor, Bob Higham, has died at the age of 82. Former colleagues at the magazine remember him fondly and send condolences to his wife, Diana, his daughters and grandchildren.
Before writing and editing technical articles about leather for World Leather and other publications, Bob Higham worked in the industry at tanneries in Bolton in the north-west of England, in Galashiels in the Scottish Borders and in Edenbridge in Kent, having completed the leather technology course at the National Leathersellers College in London in 1959. He also worked as a consultant for UNIDO.
In 1980, he went to Aberdeen to train to be a minister for the Church of Scotland. He then worked in parish ministry in places as diverse as Tiree in the Western Isles and Berwick-upon-Tweed in north-east England. He retired from full-time parish work in 2002, but continued to help at his local church, a St Andrew’s, Wallace Green, in Berwick and in a hospital chaplaincy role at Berwick Infirmary.
A service to celebrate his life took place at St Andrew’s, Wallace Green, on Wednesday, February 19, followed by a burial service across the border at Polwarth Kirk.
