The Moroccan government has given approval for a 50 million DH ($5.2 million) tannery complex in the Ain Noqbi district of Fes, which will replace tanneries in the Medina.

Plans include a leather market, a craft centre and a traditional tannery.

Local press report it will improve tanners’ working conditions, increase employment and create tourism and investment opportunities.

Around 350 tanners will relocate to the new area, which will also house a water treatment plant, according to reports.
