Ambitious targets for Moroccan leather industry

The president of Moroccan leather industry association Fedic, Hamid Ben Ghrido, has said he believes the sector can achieve an ambitious target of creating 350,000 new jobs by 2020, increasing revenues to 7.5 billion dirhams, with almost 75% of that money coming from exports.

In recent comments to local media, Mr Ben Ghrido said there is still much work for companies making leather and finished leather products to do make the necessary improvements, especially in areas such as traceability and building up business in new markets. But he said Morocco also has the advantage of having easy access to customers in Europe and even in the Americas.

Most importantly, he said there are good, active companies in the Moroccan leather industry that know they have to contribute to the sector’s progress by investing in its future.
