Luxury automotive company Aston Martin has announced that vehicle production has begun at its new manufacturing facility in the village of St Athan in Wales. It announced plans to open this site in early 2016.

Pre-production of its first SUV, the Aston Martin DBX, is now underway there. It will also serve as the group’s “Home of Electrification”, where it will make its Rapide E electric car, as well as the manufacturing home of the Lagonda brand.

Making this announcement, Aston Martin said that 200 jobs have already been created at the facility, with up to 550 more expected to follow. Full production is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2020.

St Athan will be the sole production facility for the Aston Martin DBX. Testing of this new luxury model is already underway in the Welsh Countryside. It has also been put through its paces in the Arctic Circle, according to Aston Martin.

The Aston Martin DBX will be officially unveiled at the end of 2019.
