Aston Martin pays tribute to ‘unique’ tannery
The chief creative officer of luxury automotive brand Aston Martin, Marek Reichman, has described leather supplier Bridge of Weir and the materials it supplies as “unique”.

Speaking to technology publication New Atlas, Mr Reichman explained that Aston Martin appreciates a number of aspects of Bridge of Weir’s work.

It likes the efforts the leather manufacturer has gone to in reducing its impact on the environment, notably in investing in and building its own waste-to-energy plant. Mr Reichman said he is also a big fan of the raw material Bridge of Weir sources from Ireland and Scotland because of the lack of insect damage to the hides. It is this, he explained, that makes it possible for Aston Martin to use in the interior of its vehicles leather that looks and feels as natural as possible; there is no need for excessive coating to disguise blemishes, he said.

An added benefit, according to Mr Reichman, is the aroma of natural leather that Aston Martin’s customers smell when opening their car door. “It's a small nuance,” he said, “but it”s the kind of thing that makes a car feel different. It’s the sort of thing that makes people fall in love with a car.”
