Excessive rain increases Ireland's cattle for sale
Agriland reports that prolonged rain in Ireland has resulted in higher numbers of cattle presented for sale. Deteriorating ground conditions, Niall Claffey writes, has forced farmers to market their animals at marts across the country.
In some areas, heavy rainfall has brought an end to grazing for 2019 which, according to Mr Claffey, will put pressure on prices. He adds that cow numbers have also increased and these numbers are expected to grow, while recent moves by processors have cut cow quotes — factors that will combine to have a negative impact on trade.
Heavy bull destined for further feeding, is back on price. However, exporters are still active for the lighter weanling bull, and a high percentage of suitable weanling bulls are moving quickly.
