Luxury group LVMH has welcomed the latest intake of students to its Institute des Métiers d’Excellence initiative, which aims to pass on artisan skills in a range of disciplines to the next generation of craftspeople.

The class of 2018/19 features 200 new apprentices. A further 300 alumni have passed through the programme. It has 15 partner schools, including two universities, and sees the involvement of 32 LVMH maisons

At a ceremony to officially begin the new year of training, LVMH revealed that 60% of graduates from the 2017/18 class had found jobs within the group or its outside partners.

LVMH also used the event to announce several new partnerships for the initiative. These included with:

Politecnico Calzaturiero in Capriccio di Vigonza (Veneto region) in women’s shoes;
Académie du Savoir-faire Berluti in Ferrare (Emilia Romagna region) in men’s shoes;
Università Ca’Foscari Venezia in Venice, with the Master in Luxury, Customer Advisor retail sales programme.

Chantal Gaemperle, LVMH executive vice president of human resources and synergies, said: “We are delighted that the Institut des Métiers d’Excellence has inspired more than 500 young apprentices to train for careers requiring craftsmanship, creative and retail skills. This illustrates the strength of the IME’s unique work/study model. We are pleased that this model is continually expanding in France and other countries where there is an attractive pool of potential talent and where LVMH is present.”
