Jaguar Land Rover to temporarily close UK plant

UK automotive manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover is planning a two-week shutdown of its plant in Solihull, UK, later this month.

It will begin on October 22. The company said employees would be paid for the duration of the shutdown and no jobs would be lost.

In a statement, Jaguar Land Rover’s parent company Tata Motors said weakening global demand, especially in China, was the reason for the shutdown. Sales in this market fell 46% in September, it revealed.

"As part of the company's continued strategy for profitable growth, Jaguar Land Rover is focused on achieving operational efficiencies and will align supply to reflect fluctuating demand globally as required," the firm said in a statement.
