Jaguar Land Rover announces move to Slovakia for its Discovery model

11/06/2018
Jaguar Land Rover, which describes itself as the UK’s largest automotive manufacturer, built around “two iconic British car brands”, has announced that it will move production of the Land Rover Discovery from Solihull, near Birmingham, to its plant in Slovakia. The change will come into effect at the start of 2019.

In a statement, Jaguar Land Rover said: “The decision to move the Land Rover Discovery to Slovakia and the potential losses of some agency employed staff in the UK is a tough one but forms part of our long-term manufacturing strategy as we transform our business globally.”

It said it is making a “significant investment” to upgrade its factory in Solihull to accommodate production of future Land Rover models. It is also refitting its factory at Halewood, near Liverpool, for production of the next generation of its Evoque model. This, the company said, is “proof that we remain committed both to the UK and to transformation and growth”.
