20/02/2018
The training focused on sustainable leather manufacturing technologies and was held as part of the Kanpur Leather Development Project, a joint initiative between UNIDO and the Kanpur Unnao Leather Development Company (KLC).
It counted on the support of the University of Northampton, the Council for Leather Exports (CLE) and the Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI).
The aim of the project is to engage tannery owners and technicians. Training is divided into theoretical and practical sessions, including demonstrations in pilot units at selected tanneries.
A total of 26 participants took part in the first cycle, with the topics covered including ‘How to deal with hydrogen sulphide gas’ and ‘First aid in the workplace’.
The next training cycle will see KLC use training packages and on-line tools and methodology developed for the course. The e-learning platform includes features such as a discussion forum, a news portal and assignment options.
