Pollution board orders closure of Kanpur tanneries

16/06/2017
Almost 70 tanneries have been shut down by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) around the Indian city of Kanpur over the past two months, according to a report in the Times of India.

The CPCB has revoked their licences following raids that uncovered problems such as broken pollution monitoring systems.

A team from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) is due to start an inspection of the River Ganges, which prompted the closures, said the article.
