Some tanneries have started production at Savar cluster

Bangladesh’s Industry Minister, Amir Hossain Amu, has told the country’s parliament that 55 tanneries have already started producing leather at the new tanning cluster at Savar.

A total of 154 tanneries have been ordered by the government to relocate from the Hazaribagh cluster. Mr Hossain said more factories are expected to begin production soon. 

He explained that although the relocation process is causing “temporary interruption in the country’s leather production”, it will eventually help to boost both production and leather exports.
