Piquadro steps up reshoring efforts

04/01/2017
Italian leathergoods company Piquadro is to speed up the reshoring of its production, three years after first exploring the option.

Piquadro began bringing production back to Italy from overseas in 2014 due to high transport cost and import duties. Marco Palmieri, founder and president of the brand, said costs in Asia “have skyrocketed”.

Mr Palmieri added that its consumers who want premium, luxury products now want to see ‘Made in Italy’, rather than ‘Made in China’.  He believes that increasing the number of leather products it makes in Italy “is the best way to discover ourselves”.

Even before reshoring, all of Piquadro’s products had to pass through Italy before being sold. Each one undergoes a rigorous quality control process at the brand’s headquarters in the Emilia-Romagna region before it is deemed suitable to be distributed to the customer.
