15/01/2010

Italian leathergoods brand Piquadro is continuing its retail expansion programme and has announced new store openings in Europe and Asia.

The company now has 65 stores, some of which are run by franchise partners. As well as having outlets in a series of major cities in Italy, it also has shops in a number of the country's airports. There are also Piquadro stores in Barcelona and Belgrade.

The company has said it wants to expand quickly in and around China now. Four new stores began trading in May and June 2009 in Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei and Hong Kong and will open more stores in the region this year.

Piquadro chief executive, Marco Palmieri, said: "The growing consumption of higher-price goods by the Chinese population encourages us to trust the opportunity to be present in this market. The success obtained in Hong Kong gives us hope that the entire area will become important in terms of revenue."
